The Little House Today

The actual site of The Little House on the  Prairie is today, as when Laura lived there with her family, a tranquil and beautiful open prairie setting surrounded by rustling prairie grasses and the stirrings of small prairie animals.

Today, the Ingalls family's one-room cabin is replicated exactly as Laura described in The Little House on the Prairie.

Close by stand two authentic buildings from the same period. Sunnyside School, moved to the Little House on the Prairie site from its original location  a few miles away, is a one-room schoolhouse that was used from 1872-1947. The school holds authentic desks from the 1870's and 1880's and countless charming country school details. The site also features an original turn-of-the-century Post office that served the Wayside, Ks., area until the mid 1970's.

Visitors are invited to visit the site from March 22 to October 31st,
Monday-Saturday 10am to 5pm and Sundays 1:00pm to 5:00pm.
Admission is by donation.
